"Downstroy" is the lead track of the third album 3, released in 2002. The first track is the second single released from this album, after the second track "Seek 'n' Strike", though both of these singles were released on the same day, a week before the album they belong to was released.
The title is a portmanteau of 'down' and 'destroy'. The title was inspired from the way the World Trade Center was destroyed on 9/11. "Downstroy" was the first Soulfly song recorded since 9/11. This song features a generic metal riff, followed by a blend of South American percussion and samples of news stories from 2002. The song talks about fighting and bleeding in order to keep the soul.
Lyrics[]
Fighting for your soul
Defending what is yours
Arm in arms, I and I and all
Fire is within
Bleed for your belief
Come on and bleed with me
Chuan-Tzu Rules of war
A warrior is reborn
3000 years before
Not, we won't give up
Not, we won't back up
And we'll never let go
Destroy 'em down
Destroy 'em all
Destroy 'em down
Destroy 'em all
Fighting for your soul
Defending what is yours
Arm in arms, I and I and all
Fire is within
Bleed for your belief
Come on and bleed with me
Destroy 'em down
Destroy 'em all
Destroy 'em down
Destroy 'em down
Downstroy
